Accreditation


Florida State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, masters, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees. Florida State University also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels.

Carnegie Foundation Classification


In 2025, The Carnegie Foundation classified Florida State University in the Institutional Classification of “Mixed Undergraduate/Graduate-Doctorate Large” with a Research Activity Designation of “Research 1: Very High Spending and Doctorate Production“. FSU is one of 187 American universities (135 public) with that designation. In addition, a 2026 report selected Florida State University for the Community Engagement Classification. This competitive designation recognizes Florida State's commitment to exemplary institutional practices of engagement within its local, state, and global community.
